Association for Women’s Career Development in Hungary
The Hungarian Women's Career Development Association (AWCDH) founded in 2003, aims to promote women’s employment while balancing the needs of family life. To this end it is essential that we foster a dialogue between the legislature, the government, the corporate and non-profit spheres, and higher education, in cooperation with international experts and NGOs both on the cross-border and EU level.
In pursuit of its objectives, AWCDH looks to adopt all positive foreign best practices within a Hungarian framework, while at the same time it hopes to present exemplary Hungarian practices abroad by utilizing its network within the European Union and the United Nations. AWCDH has been granted the opportunity to cooperate in the work of UN/ECOSOC as the first Hungarian NGO in “Special consultative status with UN-ECOSOC”, awarded in 2009. This recognition adds strength to our work in the field of European relations and global issues like women’s equality, women’s rights, sustainability and demographic change.
It is important that we present good practices of successful work / life balance in the case of mothers with young children, women over 50, rural women, fresh graduates, and women with disabilities.
The AWCDH has organized about 40 international conferences, numerous meetings and workshops. This year, for the thirteenth time, they invited participation in the survey of the our "Best Workplace for Women” Award   which has received recognition also at EU level. This is a continuation of the successful initiative launched in 2007 at the time of the “Equal Opportunities for All – European Year”.  Since 2007 they have carried out surveys in connection with our “Best Workplace for Women” Award among employers and employees every year. Their special database regarding women’s employment and women’s well-being is available as a representative sample reflecting the opinion of more than 17 thousand employees.

Female entrepreneurship represents one of the alternative forms of women employment. Despite the fact that women's emancipation is still a debated social issue, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe, it is possible to assume that the importance of women in the business environment is increasing.
According to the results of a survey conducted by SBA (SBA, 2019), entrepreneurship is often a pragmatic choice between the profession and the family. Running own business allows them to synchronize work self-fulfillment and family life. The primary entrepreneurial motivation of women is mainly the effort to support the family (SBA, 2019). In particular, the women's business career brought about unfavorable situations of existence in the time of family formation. For other women, business is also a partial source of family budget income. The secondary motives for business include the desire to meet challenges. The realization of individual freedom can be included in the same group.
On the other hand, running own business goes hand in hand with increasing time and work demands, resulting in difficulties in their family life and also causing health problems. Even though, these circumstances do not mean that women should not enter into business, further discussion on measures ensuring work-life balance and reconciliation of work and private/family life is necessary to tackle these challenges. SBA, having long experience in support of the Slovak small and medium sized enterprises, carries out several activities concerning monitoring of the business environment in Slovakia, providing inputs and in preparation relevant policies and providing direct and indirect support to entrepreneurs and non-entrepreneurs. Being a part of the initiative would be a great opportunity to connect stakeholders from the V4 countries in order to define common challenges, share good practices and draw recommendations and specific measures.
